Animals

There are two types of animals that can be of great help to witches, these are “Familiar Animals” and “Power Animals”.

Familiar Animals

Familiar animals fall into the category of the stereotypical witches cat you have seen on television shows. Your familiar, is an animal whose spirit wants to help and work with you. They can help in many ways, guiding you, supporting you, and best of all working magick.

Familiars are simply an animal that you have a special relationship with. This could be a family pet that you are closer to than the rest of the family like a dog, cat, or bird. You feel closer to this animal like you are connected in some way. That way most likely is through the spirit in each of you.

Magick is all about tuning in and listening to the entire universe, most of which is not human.

Take the time to practice listening with your heart and spirit to your animal friend, slow down and feel the words coming into you, not with your ears, hearing is not always about verbal language.

Familiars sometimes find you in the most peculiar ways when you're not even looking for them. That cat that keeps showing up on your doorstep, that dog that keeps popping up and following you down the street, a little bird that stays at your window or perched in a nearby tree looking at you.

Always remember your Familiar is on equal ground with you in the spirit world, in fact they might just be superior to you. Their spirit knows no age.

If you find yourself having a hard time locating your Familiar why not ask the lord and lady for guidance by doing a ritual, or going deep within meditation to seek out your Familiar.

Power Animals

Power animals are different from familiars in that they are “representative animals” or spirit animals in some cultures.

They are spirit helpers, connected with all the animals of their kind. You might feel a connection with a particular type of animal like a dog or bird, maybe you feel that this animal in some way represents you, or your inner spirit.

In this case this animal might be your power animal, and you can ask this animal for guidance when you’re working magick.

To find your power animal locate a safe quiet place to take a journey within to seek out your power animal, you may want to cast a circle and call the quarters, and ask for their assistance and protection as you journey to the other world.

Once you enter the otherworld keep a look out for your power animal, you may feel as though someone or something is watching you, if this is the case you might want to stop and rest in this place, giving your power animal time to connect with you.

Don’t be surprised to find out that your power animal is a Giant Bear towering over you, or a little Butterfly flitting about you as it communicates with you.

You may also find that different power animals might come to you giving you the guidance or help you with what you need at that time in your journey.

Your power animal my wish to return with you to this realm to further assist you. Follow this advice and embrace your power animal combining your energy with theirs, then journey back to this realm. You now have the combined energy of both you and your power animal to do what is needed in magick, and your other magickal endeavors.
