THE CHARGE OF GODS AND GODDESS

The Charge of the God

Written by Ray Fagan, Elder of the Woodland Celtic Tradition of Wicca.
Whenever you have need of my strength and power,
or when my sun reaches a spoke of the great wheel,
then shall you assemble into a holy place and cry out for the king stag, who is the sacred King of all witches.

I am the king stag, who leads and protects the herd.
I am the white hart who is chased but can never be caught,
the wild goat who would give his last breath to create new life,
the unicorn and the dragon of legends ancient wrought,
and the dark horned hunter who strikes terror into the night!
I am the sun and the wind and the sea.
I am the storm and the lightning and the thunder.
I am the stone and the fire and the steel.
I am the blade which can cut men asunder.
I am life, and I am death. I am nature.
Love me and respect me -- or fear me.
The choice is yours.

I am the lusty young satyr who spawned you,
the loving father who raised and protected you,
and the wise old man who taught you wisdom during your life
and understanding during your death.
I will be there each time you are born,
each time you fall in love,
and when you die,
for I do love you.

These are the three great magicks which you shall learn at my hand:
birth, love, and death.
For these are the three greatest changes of life;
and what is magick, but the ability to effect change?
The secret of life is that it is incomplete without death.
The secret of death is that it is but a doorway to new beginnings.
The secret of love is that it never dies.

Serve me with strength and gentleness.
Protect mine with courage and mercy.
Worship me with mirth and with reverence.
Sing, dance, make music, and make love,
all in my name, for all acts of love and joy are my rituals.
And remember, if you find not that which you seek within yourself,
you shall never find it without;
for behold, I have been with you from the beginning
and am that which is attained at the end of desire.

The Charge of the Goddess

This charge is normally spoken to new initiates of Wicca by the priest and priestess of a coven. It may also be used as an inspirational poem or as part of your self-initiation.

The High Priest:
Listen to the words of the Great Mother;
she who of old was also called among men
Artemis, Astarte, Athene, Dione, Melusine,
Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Cybele, Arianrhod,
Isis, Dana, Bride and by many other names:

The High Priestess:
Whenever ye have need of anything,
once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full,
then shall ye assemble in some secret place
and adore the spirit of me, who am Queen of all the witches.

There shall ye assemble,
ye who are fain to learn all sorcery,
yet have not won its deepest secrets;
to these will I teach things that are yet unknown.
And ye shall be free from slavery;
and as a sign that ye be really free,
ye shall be naked in your rites;
and ye shall dance, sing, feast,
make music and love,
all in my praise.
For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit,
and mine also is joy on earth;
for my law is love unto all beings.
Keep pure your highest ideal;
strive ever towards it;
let naught stop you or turn you aside.
For mine is the secret door
which opens upon the Land of Youth,
and mine is the cup of the wine of life,
and the Cauldron of Cerridwen,
which is the Holy Grail of immortality.

I am the Gracious Goddess,
who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man.
Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal;
and beyond death, I give peace and freedom
and reunion with those who have gone before.
Nor do I demand aught in sacrifice;
for behold,
I am the Mother of all living,
and my love is poured out upon the earth.
The High Priest:
Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess;
she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts
of heaven, and whose body encircles the universe
The High Priestess:
I who am the beauty of the green earth,
the white moon among the stars, and the mystery
of the waters call unto thy soul;
Arise, and come unto me.

I am the soul of nature who gives life to the universe.
From Me all things proceed, and unto Me all things must return.
Before My face, beloved of gods and of men, let thine
innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite.

Let My worship be within the heart that rejoices,
for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals.
Therefore let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion,
honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you.

To thou who thinkest to seek Me, know that thy seeking and
yearning shall avail thee not, unless thou knowest the Mystery.
If that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee,
thou wilt never find it without.

For behold, I have been with thee from the beginning; and
I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

The Charge of the Crone

I am the Queen of Magick and the Dark of the Moon,
hidden in the deepest night.
I am the mystery of the Otherworlds
and the fear that coils about your heart
in the times of your trials.

I am the soul of nature that gives form to the universe;
it is I who awaits you at the end of the spiral dance.

Most ancient among gods and mortals,
let my worship be within the heart that has truly tasted life,
for behold all acts of magick and art are my pleasure
and my greatest ritual is love itself.
Therefore let there be beauty in your strength,
compassion in your wrath,
power in your humility,
and discipline balanced through mirth and reverence.

You who seek to remove my veil and behold my true face,
know that all your questioning and efforts are for nothing,
and all your lust and desires shall avail you not at all.

For unless you know my mystery,
look wherever you will, it will elude you,
for it is within you and nowhere else.
For behold, I have ever been with you,
from the very beginning,
the comforting hand that nurtured you in the dawn of life,
and the loving embrace that awaits you at the end of each life,
for I am that which is attained at the end of the dance,
and I am the womb of new beginnings,
as yet unimagined and unknown.

Charge of the Dark Goddess

I am the Darkness behind and beneath the shadows.
I am the absence of air that awaits at the bottom of every breath.
I am the Ending before Life begins again,
the Decay that fertilizes the Living.
I am the Bottomless Pit,
the never-ending struggle to reclaim that which is denied.
I am the Key that unlocks every Door.
I am the Glory of Discovery,
for I am that which is hidden, secluded and forbidden.
Come to me at the Dark Moon and see that which can not be seen,
face the terror that is yours alone.
Swim to me through the blackest oceans
to the center of your greatest fears--
the Dark God and I will keep you safe.
Scream to us in terror, and yours will be the Power to Forbear.
Think of me when you feel pleasure, and I will intensify it,
until the time when I may have the greatest pleasure
of meeting you at the Crossroads Between the Worlds.

BLESSINGS

Blessing of the Book of Shadows

Hearken as the witches' word
calls to All, a gulf to ford.
Bridge the vast realities,
An it harm none, do as ye please.
Elements protect and guard this book,
From wandering eyes and prying looks.
Fill it with thine ancient power,
In this right and ready hour.
Powers of North, the East below,
Help me to live, to learn, to grow.
Lend your strength and stability,
To practice the Craft and with love be free.
Powers of East, the Wind, the Sky,
Watch over these pages with thine eye.
Your wisdom and knowledge, for these I do ask,
That this book be worthy of the Craft and its task.
Powers of South, Fire, and the Hearth,
Help these Shadows to prove their worth.
Infuse them with all your Healing and Passion,
So only good comes from the Work that is fashioned.
Powers of West, the Water and Sea,
Change and growth are granted by thee.
Bless these pages with all that you know,
That righteous readers may learn and grow.
And to the unschooled eye that see
Confusing words and sophistry,
Lead them from these sacred pages,
And bless their passage through the ages.
For free will of all,
And harm of none,
As I have willed it,
It is now done.
So mote it be!

Bless You

Bless you for your Anger, for it is a sign of Rising Energy.
Direct it not at your family, waste not on your enemy.
Transform the energy into versatility and it will bring you prosperity.

Bless you for the times you see evil.
Evil is energy mishandled and it feeds on your support.
Feed it not and it will self destruct.
Shed light and it will cease to be.

Bless you for your jealousy, for it is a sign of empathy.
Direct it not at your family. Direct it not at your friends.
Transform the energy to Admiration,
and what you admire will become a part of your life.

Count your blessings everyday for they are your protection which stands between you and what you wish not.
Count your curses and they will be a wall which stands between you and what you wish

Native American Prayer

Oh Great Spirit,
whose voice I hear in the winds,
and whose breath gives life to all the world
-hear me-

I come before you, one of your children.
I am small and weak.
I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever
behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made,
my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise, so that I may know the things
you have taught my People,
the lesson you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I seek strength not to be superior to my brothers,
but to be able to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me ever ready to come to you,
with clean hands and straight eyes,
so when life fades as a fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you without shame.

New Project Blessing Spell

Do at the New Moon

Maiden Goddess, you who sprout from tiny seed, the Earth throughout,
Bless this project with your joy and those of us in its employ.
Mother goddess, you who flower and bring beauty to our daylight hours.
Bless this project with your hand and the fertile bounty of your land.
Ancient Goddess, you who rest and reseed all used things with your breath,
Bless us with your intuition, help bring this project to fruition.
Bestow your blessings, Triple One, and guide us 'til this project's done.

Computer Blessing

Blessings on this fine machine,
May its data all be clean.
Let the files stay where they're put,
Away from disk drives keep all soot.
From its screen shall come no whines,
Let in no spikes on power lines.
As oaks were sacred to the Druids,
Let not the keyboard suffer fluids.
Disk Full shall be nor more than rarity,
The memory shall not miss its parity.
From the modem shall come wonders,
Without line noise making blunders.
May it never catch a virus,
And all its software stay desirous.
Oh let the printer never jam,
And turn my output into spam.
I ask of Eris, noble queen,
Keep Murphy far from this machine.

Pet Blessing

Do each pet separately. Light a white candle and then, holding your pet (or its picture), kneel before the altar and recite the following prayer:
O Great Horned God, father of the woodlands, and loving lord of all creatures that walk crawl, swim and fly.
A threefold blessing I humbly ask of thee on this special day:
May (pet's name) life be a long, happy and healthy one.
May (s)he always receive your divine protection.
And when our incarnations in this world cease to be, may we forever be reunited in the great Wiccan otherworld known as the Summerland.
Blessed be!

Chant name of pet and Blessed Be three times.

White Candle Spell for Blessing

Get a white candle-either a plain one (offertory, pillar, or taper) or a figural one in the gender of the person you want to bless.

Carve the person's full name on the candle, then dress it with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil.

For more power, you may place a name-paper of the person, or a photo, or some personal item of theirs (such as a bit of hair or a snippet of clothing) either under the candle or next to it. One easy way to do this is to place the paper or personal concerns under an overturned saucer and put the candle on top of the saucer.

Burn a portion of the candle every day for seven days, pinching it out between burnings. As you light it each day, say this

[Name], may you be blessed
May all good things come to you\
May nothing whatsoever harm you
May your heart be light
May your travels be safe
May your health be good
May your mind be sound
May your friendships sustain you
May you be blessed in every way
If you have a special request for this person (such as that they find a lover, get a good job, come home safely from a war, or whatever), just add it to the list.

Some people use a large pillar-type candle and keep it going for longer than seven days.

They may make a habit of burning such a candle every day-or once a week, on Sundays -- for as long as their friend or relative needs help, even doing so for months at a time.

If the candle is large and it is to be burned in this way, it should be re-dressed with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil once a week: after the initial dressing, you can drop a tiny bit of oil into the "well" or hole in such a large candle just before lighting it each time.

Helping Mother Earth Heal Those in Need

For those not skilled in magick and spells, you can lend strength and energy to those in need simply by lighting a green candle and doing the following: Picture a white ball of energy coming out of your chest (near the sternum or breastbone). At this point you may wish to say a few words or simply focus on the pain and suffering coming from the group you are focusing on (refugees, starving children, etc). You are offering this energy to any and all who need it, so try not to focus on any one person or face from the papers. From deep in your chest, *push* the ball. You will feel the muscles in your chest pushing and your shoulders drawn in toward the center of your torso. This will send the energy to the place and group you were thinking of.

Remember, one person can make a difference. In addition to magick, why not call the Red Cross. Find out what groups are doing relief work in Albania, Somalia, Serbia, etc. Volunteer to collect canned goods, clothes, blankets, etc.

Blessing for the Body

To convert the senses. This blessing gives the body more connection with the spirit. It may also help with your readiness to channel.
To be done at night in the moon's view.
Extravagance is not appreciated.
The Spell:
Light a large white candle.
Burn sandalwood and basalm and pine.
Prepare a bowl of water sprinkled with salt.
Put the bowl before you. Dip your finger in the water and touch it to each part of your body.
Touch between your eyes and say:
Bless my eyes that I might have clarity of vision.
Touch your mouth and say:
Bless my mouth that I may speak the truth.
Touch your ears and say:
Bless my ears that I may hear all that is spoken and all that is not.
Touch your heart and say:
Bless my heart that I may be filled with love.
Touch your uterus and say:
Bless my womb that I may be in touch with my creative energy that stems from the universe.
To your feet, say:
Bless my feet that I may find and walk my own true path
Visualize filling yourself with understanding and love.
Extinguish the candle when done (can be used for other purposes).

Spell to Find a Lost Pet / Spell to Make Your Pet Return

For Help in Finding a Lost Animal Using The Tarot

by Janina Renee, Tarot Spells (Llewellyn's New Age Tarot Series),© 1990

The Tarot doesn't actually have any cards specifically pertaining to animals. However, many decks use animals as symbols in some of the illustrations.

For spells involving animals, we can use these cards, concentrating on the animal in the picture and ignoring the card's conventional meaning. The spells here use the Rider-Waite deck, but if you are using another deck, you will want to look it over to see whether it uses the same animals as Waite, and also whether it has other cards that show animals.

Cards that can be used as significators for animals include the 9 OF PENTACLES, THE STAR, and the ACE OF CUPS for birds; the QUEEN OF WANDS for cats; STRENGTH for domestic cats and big cats like lions and tigers; THE MOON, THE FOOL, and the 10 OF PENTACLES for dogs and wolves; the PAGE OF CUPS and The MOON for fish and aquatic life; THE SUN, the 6 OF WANDS, and all of the KNIGHTS for horses; the KING OF WANDS for lizards and reptiles, the QUEEN OF PENTACLES for rabbits; and THE LOVERS for snakes.

If you don't find the above-mentioned possible significator cards satisfactory, you can also use a picture of the animal or animals in place of a Tarot card to be the significator.

The layout is cross-shaped, as the cross is an ancient symbol of protection appropriate for the protective feelings many of us have toward animals, and especially the concern we feel for lost animals. The 6 OF CUPS, which forms the base of this cross, is a card that rekindles love and renews old ties, acting to draw the lost animal back to its home and to the people who love it. THE MAGICIAN stands for the utilization of resources, and assures that all measures will be taken and all efforts utilized in the search. THE STAR brings luck and hope--elements very necessary to such an undertaking. THE HERMIT reveals where that which is lost may be found. Here, THE HERMIT shines his lamp on the card chosen to represent the lost pet.

If you wish to use accessories for this spell, use pink candles, flowers, crystals, gemstones and cloth, as pink is the color of affectionate love. If possible, also have some pictures of the missing pet laid out. (You can also include pieces of hair, feathers, whiskers or such from the pet in question.) Also, for this particular spell you will need to have a lit candle nearby, whether or not you choose to include lighting candles as part of this ritual.

To perform this spell, you can proceed by laying out the cards and doing the following meditation, visualization, and affirmation.

MEDITATION AND VISUALIZATION

Lay out the cards when you come to the appropriate point in the spell.

Lay the animal's SIGNIFICATOR down first. Visualize the animal, recalling its features and mannerisms to the best of your ability. Picture the missing pet being drawn to the light of the candles--to the light of love. Hold your hands above the candle flames for a few moments. Feel the warmth of the candles, and visualize the light of the candles acting as a beacon to lead the animal home.

Lay down the SIX OF CUPS, and think about all of the good times you and your pet have had together. Try to remember the day you first got your pet, what they were like as a youngster, etc.

As you lay down THE MAGICIAN, consider the various courses of action that may be taken in the search for your pet.

Lay down THE STAR, a card for wishing. Make a wish for your pet to return.

Finally, lay down THE HERMIT, visualizing your pet being found or returned, and how happy you both will be to be reunited.

AFFIRMATION

After you have finished meditating on the cards and visualizations, carefully, and with as much feeling as you can, recite the following affirmation:

"As I set forth these cards in the light of these candles, the small friend for whom I have so much love is drawn home to me!

I do not cease trying to find my friend until he/she returns home.

I call upon all good spirits and all good powers who care about small and helpless creatures to aid me in my search!

My small friend (name of pet) is brought home through the spell which I call forth.

It shines like a beacon that my animal friend can see!

As my will, so mote it be!"

You may consider the spell closed at this point, or you may close the spell as desired.

Pet Protection Spell

Pet Protection Spell
From Yasmine Galenorn's Embracing the Moon: A Witch's Guide to Rituals, Spellcraft and Shadow Work
© 2002 Llewellyn Publications
While it is important to work carefully with your totem animals, it is also important to remember your pets. This spell will help protect your animal friends on the physical plane.

For EACH animal you will need:
  • 1 six-inch square piece of black felt fabric paints
  • a clipping of hair or stray feathers from your pet
  • 2 teaspoons dried cedar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoons catnip (even if you have a dog)
  • 1 teaspoon comfrey
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried garlic
  • 1 teaspoon heather
  • Protection or Guardian oil (below)
  • Cotton
  • Needle and thread
On what will be the outside of the charm bag paint your pet's name and these runes: Algiz, Koad; the forest rune; the pentacle and the Goddess rune. Let dry. Fold the felt in half (painted side in) and sew two sides of it, leaving one open. Reverse the bag so the painted side is facing out. Raise energy on the herbs then powder and pour into the pouch. Add the clipping of pet hair, then stuff the rest with cotton to which you have added a few drops of the oil. Finish sewing the pouch.
Cast a circle, invoke the elements and the Lord and Lady.
Say:

O gracious Lord and Lady,
Protector of all creatures who walk upon this earth.
Guard my (pet's species and name) against harm and illness.
Watch over him/her with every step he/she takes.
Help me protect him/her and strengthen the connection of love between us.
Let this charm be blessed, to hold the energy of protection.
Blessed be.

Keep the charm bags in a safe place, perhaps on your altar, where the animal can't get to it. Renew this charm every six months.

Remember: the best protection for your animals is to keep them inside, to keep their vaccinations current, and to give them plenty of love, food, and clean water.

Protection Oil:
This is a good oil to select for your candle of protection when you are concerned with physical, as opposed to psychic attack. It can also be used to anoint yourself before you leave on a journey or undertake a potentially hazardous situation.
  • 1/2 ounce olive oil
  • 6 drops rose geranium oil
  • 15 drops lemon oil
  • 4 drops citronella oil
  • 8 drops lavender oil
  • flower: lavender
  • drops cajupet oil (did not specify how many)
  • gem: clear quartz

Guardian Oil:
  • 1/2 ounce olive oil
  • 5 drops pennyroyal oil
  • 15 drops lemon oil
  • 10 drops rosewood oil
  • 10 drops clove oil
  • flower: rose
  • 15 drops patchouli oil
  • Gems: carnelian, citrine

Spell for Shelter Animals

Spell for Shelter Animals - by Cerridwen Iris Shea

Here is something you can do when you can’t adopt all the animals in a shelter. First, place your hands close to each other, palms almost touching. Focus your loving, healing energy in that space. Let the ball of loving energy grow and pulsate until it is about the size of a large beach ball. Release it upward and outward, imagining it filling the entire building with loving energy. When you get home, light a white candle anointed with attraction oil, and say a prayer that all of the animals will find homes soon.

Spell for Healing a Pet

Spell for Healing a Pet
You will need:
  • Lavender oil
  • Camphor Oil
  • Rosemary Oil
  • Base Oil (Apricot Kernal, Jojoba, Grapeseed, or Olive Oil are good)
  • A Black Candle
  • A Red Candle
  • A Brown Candle
  • Several stones or crystals
Mix some healing oil, using:
  • 6 drops Lavender oil
  • 6 drops Camphor oil
  • 6 drops Rosemary oil
  • 1/2 ounce base oil (apricot kernel, jojoba, grapeseed, even olive oil)
Anoint a black candle, a red candle and a brown candle with this healing oil. The black is for absorption of the negativity (the illness), the red is for strength and health, and the brown is an "astral" or "significator" candle for the animal. Place the brown candle between the black and red candles, and make a ring of stones around the set-up, using stones or crystals that you associate with healing (amethyst, quartz, agate...you choose whichever type or combination of types). Place some of the oil in your hands, and begin to rub them together, generating heat and energy. When you feel that you've built a small "bundle" of healing energy, place your hands on your pet, stroking it and giving it the healing energy you've built, making sure to concentrate on any areas where you feel or sense the illness. Focus on the candles, continuing to maintain contact with your pet, and visualize the strength from the red candle pouring into the brown candle, and pushing all the sickness into the black candle. Attune with the Goddess, and when you've got a good grip on the visualizations above (and the animal!), say:

"Goddess, with your healing touch
Bless this animal we love so much.
God, with beasts as your domain,
Remove the sickness, heal the pain.
So mote it be!"

Continue the stroking and energy flow until you feel that the spell is done, then allow the animal plenty of time to rest and heal. Obviously, if you wish to perform this spell in a cast circle, that's your choice. If you wish to continue the spell for a number of days (I'd suggest at least 3 days), and your pet has a special place where it rests or "lives" (such as a cage, etc.), ring this area, if possible, with the stones, place a red candle on one side of the area and a black candle on the other (anointed with the healing oil); focus on the red candle and project its energy into area with your pet, visualizing the illness being pushed out the other side, since there's no room for it, and into the black candle. Rub the oil onto your hands and stroke it into/onto the animal's body as often as you feel necessary.

Color energies are useful in many ways. One of the most basic ways to use color symbolism in magick is to select candles of the color appropriate to your purpose. The power of color may be added at any point in rituals and spells to enhance the symbolism, and thus the power of the spell.

Examples include:

    Candles
    Altar Cloth & Flowers
Fabric and components for Amulets, Talismans, Dream Pillows, etc.
Food coloring choices in Bath Salts.
Label/Container choices for brews, teas, essential oils etc.
Meditations on colors for reaching specific chakras, or areas for psychic development.
Garments for ceremonies or simply on days when you wish to attract (or deflect) certain energies.
Colored papers and inks for written spell work.
Awareness of colors you select in your decor and environment.

As with most things magickal, how you feel about the color and your aims is the most important guide. If a color feels right to use for a purpose, even if it is not listed here, use it! As shown in the varying and sometimes overlapping associations above, the power and meaning of colors varies somewhat form person to person.

Which Days to do Spells
A Witches Daily Correspondences for Spellcasting

Some witches, mainly Wiccans I believe, do their spellwork on certain days of the week, depending on the theme of the spell. They believe that the day of the week holds a special significance to the theme of their spell.
Here are the weekly planetary correspondences. You can use these to determine which days of the week you may have better luck with the spells you are casting.

Monday: The Moon; best for emotionally based spellwork, such us attracting confidence and intuition, protection spells, clairvoyance etc..

Tuesday: Mars; great for spells to inspire passion and energy such as a spell to boost confidence. Mars is a warrior, so if you need a spiritual battle, this is the day for it. Tuesday is also a good day for protection spells.

Wednesday: Mercury; Great for communication (worldly or otherwise). Good for spells involving the granting of information. Like Willow in Buffy when she says "Reveal!"

Thursday: Jupiter; probably the best day for spell work as Jupiter is so benevolent and loves to give. All prosperity spells or luck and success spells should be done on this day (be sure to keep it with the waxing moon).
Friday: Venus. . .ahhh, sweet love. This is a day for love spells and also a good day to offer your love to the gods/goddesses of choice. As the Cure say, "Friday, I'm in Love!"

Saturday: Saturn. A restrictive energy. Good for banishing spells and ridding old energies. Binding spells are also potent on this day. Also good for focusing and developing patience (something a lot of witches don't have). Typically, I do not do spells on Saturdays unless it is to get rid of unwanted energies or desires.

Sunday: The Sun; Truth in all matters. The sun is great for truth spells and generating warmth in your heart. If you feel that you are frigid inside and holding tons of resentment, use the Sun energy on Sundays to shine through a cloudy heart.

Moon Phases and Spellwork

Depending on your spell, you should aim to cast it in harmony with the cycles of the moon to achieve the most effective results. Below are the phases of the moon, what they mean, and what sort of spells are good to do during each phase.
New Moon
The new moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle, and means that the moon is completely in line with the sun and the earth. We see a dark sky with no visible moon. It's a time of newness and rejuvenation. The new moon is the three days after the new face of the moon and also includes the day of the new face of the moon.
Spells: New beginnings of any sort, beauty, health, personal improvement or new employment.
Waxing Moon
The waxing moon is the period of time between the new moon and the full moon. Every night, the moon gets a little larger. Any spellwork that requires growth should be done now.
Spells: Courage, motivation, inspiration, friendship, elemental magick, healing or luck.
Full Moon
This is a time when the Moon is at its most powerful, and the magic most potent. Performing any positive spell at this time will achieve good results. Since the full moon only truly occurs for one night out of the entire lunar cycle, it can be hard to fit it into your schedule. You can harness the energy of the full moon for about 2 days before or after the night the moon is truly full.
Spells: Artistic projects, love, romance, fertility, psychic abilities or making decisions. Also healing, guidance, and completion spells.
Waning Moon
The moon is waning as it gets smaller again, after the full moon. As the moon seems to disappear in the sky, use this time to do spellwork to remove things from your life. The waning moon is a good time for the casting out of the old ways, banishing old habits, smoking, eating habits, the removal of troubles and worries.
Spells: Banishing bad habits, addictions, or ending relationships
Typically, there is one full moon every month, but since the lunar cycle is a bit shorter than our calendar months, there is sometimes two. The second full moon in any given month is called a blue moon.
I want to mention the Dark Moon here, also called "The Dark of the Moon" because I find it very interesting personally. Many witches do not bother themselves with the dark moon or are not aware of the meaning of it. Below is a description of the dark moon.
Dark of the Moon - The Dark of the Moon (or Dark Moon) is traditionally the last three days of the Lunar cycle, immediately preceding the New Moon, and the time when the night sky is notably absent the presence of the Moon. George [1] notes that: “The earliest peoples understood that the power of life lay in the darkness of the moon. The purpose of the dark phase of any cycle is that of transition between the death of the old and the birth of the new. The dark time is a time of retreat, of healing, and of dreaming of the future.” i.e. the fallow times preceding outbursts of creativity and growth.
“Most of us do not realize we all have many dark phase times in our lives, and that these are naturally occurring periods in any life cycle. We fail to understand that endings are the precursors to new beginnings; thus when our life rhythms move us into and through these dark phases, we are ignorant of what is actually happening. It is the grandeur of Death and Rebirth, not merely an ending with the proverbial ride off into the sunset.
“The dark phase of the cyclical process is a phase of healing and renewal rather than one of fear and unknowing; a time of mystery, wisdom, and healing power -- all gifts of the Dark Moon Goddess.
“There is less energy available for outer activities and meeting the expectations of others, because the purpose of the dark phase is for focusing on the inner dimensions of our bodies and minds. If we can learn to attune ourselves to the natural rhythms of ebb and flow in our lives, we can use the intrinsic function of the dark times for healing and renewal. When we resist this inward motion in our psyche, then anxiety, stress, and fear are more likely to take hold of our emotions.
“The Triple Moon Goddess, in her new, full, and dark phases, was a model for the feminine nature in her entirety as maiden, mother, and crone. In her original worship the Dark Goddess, as the third aspect of this lunar trilogy, was honored, loved, and accepted for her wisdom and for her mystery teachings of renewal.
Spells: Healing, renewal, psychic spells. A good time to meditate on the inner self.
